First "Community/Gift" Quilt Project: History & Timeline, July to October, 2014
History & Timeline of Our First Three Months as a Guild:
  • At the July 21st gathering, members present looked at fabric that had been donated to the Guild and decided that we will make one or more iSpy quilts that would be our first charity project. The quilt(s) will be given to worthy organizations on island (i.e., the Children's Center at MV Community Services, the Red Stocking Fund….)
  • At the July 28th gathering, members present looked at alternative designs and examples, some donated fabrics, and decided that we will make two, hopefully three, iSee quilts using different patterns. Members were asked to donate suitable fabrics from their stash.
  • At the August 4th gathering, members present looked at more donated fabric, and decided decided that we would make three (probably more) iSpy quilts that we would donate to organizations such as the Red Stocking Fund and the MV Community Services Children's Center. Click HERE to see the patterns we decided on!
  • At the workshop on Wednesday, August 6th, in the Project Room at the Oak Bluffs Library, six of us began to 'fussy cut' fabrics for the quilts.
  • At all of the August meetings, members fussy cut out fabric for four iSpy quilts.

What's Next?
  • At the Saturday, September 6h Open Studio at the OB Library, and at the Monday, September 10th 'organizational gathering,' we will continue to cut fabric for the quilts (and/or we will work on our own projects).
If you have child-friendly fabric to donate, please bring it on September 6th or 8th.

Why are we doing this? Because an I See quilt can provide educational experiences for young children, and we would like to have more children benefit from having one. Collectively, we have the resources and skills to do this, and outreach is part of our mission.
