June 23rd: Appliqué:

The focus of our June 23rd Organizational Gathering is Appliqué, and Founding Members who use this technique will be our leaders.

We will be meeting in the Community Room of the West Tisbury Library (main floor) from 7 to 8:30 pm.

Supplies to bring:
Two pieces of 100% cotton fabric [Keep in mind that one fabric will be appliquéd to the other piece. One fabric could be a fussy cut of an item (e.g., a flower, any image or design) that will be appliquéd to the other piece.]
Scissors
Pins
Needles and thread
Thimble

Definition:
Appliqué is done by hand, machine or with fusible web; small pieces of fabric are sewn or fused to a background fabric to form designs. (From A Glossary of Quilting Terms at http://www.equilters.com/library/tips-hows/glossary.html )

Appliqué is a piecing process using small amounts of fabric which are then sewn onto a background fabric in a decorative design such as curved floral or animal motifs. Appliqué can be done by hand, machine or with fusible web and is often combined with pieced blocks or placed in the border to frame a pieced quilt. Appliqué is a great technique to cover stains, rips or to cover other problem areas. (From Threads, etc. at  http://www.threadsetc.com/what-does-that-mean.htm
